[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Department of Architecture at Dongmyung University recently implemented a global design education and credit exchange program with the ?cole d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville in France.
The design education and credit exchange is an international collaborative design education program that combines various educational methods, including ▲a full scholarship pre-selection system for outstanding students ▲formation of Korean-French student teams regardless of academic year ▲global theory-practice integrated team teaching ▲short-term intensive practical workshops ▲exchange field experiences.
In the program, students from 1st to 5th year at both Dongmyung University and Paris-Belleville Architecture School were mixed evenly without academic year boundaries and learned in teams of three.
Additionally, Professors Ramseyer and Macian from the French architecture school, along with Professors Cho Seung-gu, Lee Gil-im, and Yoon Jong-guk from Dongmyung University's Department of Architecture, jointly supervised the students through team teaching. Industry professionals also participated, leading architectural field learning.
The 'immersive course' method, which helps communication among team members and focuses on design work to improve the quality of the projects, was also applied.
The major course (Engineering Design), which is usually conducted for one hour per week over 15 weeks, was intensively held for three hours daily over five days during the first week of the semester, producing outstanding results equivalent to a semester's work in a short period. The two countries plan to compile the works into a publication.
To understand the architectural cultures of both countries, students from both nations also participated in exchange field experiences. This year, they visited European architectural works such as the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae and Korea's representative temple Tongdosa, experiencing both modern and traditional architecture.
Next year, they plan to visit the Pompidou Center, the Orsay Museum, and the Opera House in Paris.
Dongmyung University, nurturing Do-ing talents through challenge, experience, and practice, awarded 1 academic credit and certificates of completion to students from both countries who presented works above a certain standard after completing the program.
Six outstanding works and selected entries were awarded the Dongmyung University President's Award.
