[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dong-eui University baseball players Kang Jun-seo, Yoon Jun-ho, and Lee Jun-myung were selected by professional teams in the ‘2023 KBO Rookie Draft’.
On the 15th, the KBO held the ‘2023 KBO Rookie Draft’ targeting a total of 1,165 candidates, including high school graduates, university sophomores, and those expected to graduate, selecting 110 players to join the 10 professional baseball teams.
At Dong-eui University, infielder Kang Jun-seo was chosen by the Samsung Lions as the 48th overall pick in the 5th round, followed by catcher Yoon Jun-ho, who was selected by the Doosan Bears as the 49th overall pick in the 5th round.
Pitcher Lee Jun-myung was drafted by the KT Wiz as the 100th overall pick in the 10th round through the newly introduced Early Draft this year.
Kang Jun-seo recorded a college career batting average of 0.340 (52 games, 188 at-bats, 64 hits) and an OPS of 0.906 over four years. He is a well-rounded hitter with 23 stolen bases, showcasing his speed and base-running sense.
Yoon Jun-ho posted a solid college career batting average of 0.307 (63 games, 199 at-bats, 61 hits) and an OPS of 0.859. He is regarded as a promising large-framed catcher with both defensive and offensive skills and was selected for the national team at the World Baseball Championship for two consecutive years.
Lee Jun-myung, a right-handed orthodox pitcher who entered Dong-eui University after attending Seongnam High School, did not pitch in many games during college but was recognized for his potential due to his outstanding physical attributes of 194 cm height and 100 kg weight, leading to his selection by KT.
This year’s rookie draft continued the dominance of high school graduates, with 18 out of the 110 selected players coming from universities. Among more than 40 universities nationwide, Dong-eui University produced the highest number of professional draftees with three players selected.
