Request for Early Opening of Ilgwang New Town High School... Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang County Governor, Visits Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Jung Jong-bok, head of Gijang County (left), met with Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, to discuss educational issues in Gijang County and submitted a proposal.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Jeong Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, visited the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education on the 14th and had a meeting with Ha Yun-su, the Superintendent of Education of Busan.

The meeting was held to discuss educational issues such as the opening of a high school in Ilgwang New Town and the resolution of overcrowded classes in Jeonggwan New Town.

Ilgwang-eup, Gijang-gun, had 11,772 households and a population of 28,012 as of the end of August. Since the settlement of Ilgwang New Town, population inflow has continued, and the school-age population has also increased significantly, but there is currently no high school established within the eup.

Jeonggwan New Town also had a population under 18 years old of 20,100 as of the end of August, indicating a very high proportion of school-age population.

Requests for the establishment of a high school in Ilgwang New Town and the resolution of overcrowded classes in Jeonggwan New Town have been continuously raised, and to convey these requests, Jeong Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, held a meeting with the Busan Superintendent of Education on this day.

Mayor Jeong Jong-bok requested, “Considering situations such as transportation inconvenience, please actively review the establishment of middle and high schools on two school sites to ensure that our children can attend schools close to their homes by promptly constructing Ilgwang High School and resolving overcrowded classes in Jeonggwan New Town.”

The mayor added, “There is no specialized high school in the jurisdiction, so students residing in Gijang-gun lack opportunities to receive education suited to their individual talents and aptitudes,” and requested, “Please also positively consider attracting a specialized high school.”

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Education of Busan, responded, “The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will actively review this for the educational development of Gijang-gun.”
