‘Battery Level Indicator’ Returns After ‘Notch Design’ Implementation Disappeared
Limited on Some Models... Complaints of “Why Don’t We Have It?”
[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] iPhone users who have completed the Apple operating system (iOS) update are welcoming the return of the ‘battery percentage display’ feature.
On the 13th (Korean time), Apple released the iOS16 update for the iPhone operating system. Major changes include ▲improvements to ‘Focus Mode’ that allow selective use of apps or contacts in certain situations ▲enhanced voice-to-text input functionality ▲camera performance improvements including Portrait and Cinematic modes.
Korean users also showed interest in the new features of iPhones running iOS16. On the 14th, Twitter’s ‘Trends’ section featured terms such as ‘iPhone update,’ ‘(iOS16) wallpaper,’ ‘keyboard haptics,’ and ‘battery percentage.’
Among these, the feature that received positive reactions from Koreans was the ‘battery percentage display.’ iPhones had previously included a battery percentage display feature, but it was removed starting with the iPhone X, which introduced the notch design. Users could only check the battery level by accessing the ‘Control Center’ or using the battery widget.
With this update, devices with the notch design can now display the battery percentage. To check the battery percentage, users need to go to ‘Settings,’ then ‘Battery,’ and turn on the ‘Battery Percentage’ option.

The ‘battery percentage display’ feature is known to be supported from the iPhone 11 series onward. However, the base model of the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini do not support this feature.
Netizens left positive comments such as “It’s an innovation that the battery percentage is displayed,” “Glad to see the battery percentage,” “It’s good to check at a glance,” and “The best thing after the update.”
However, some reactions included “It’s disappointing that only numbers are displayed without color changes according to battery level,” and “It’s inconvenient to only check the battery number.” Additionally, users of models that cannot use this feature commented, “Why is this feature not applied to us?” expressing their desire for the feature to be enabled.
