[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 13th, Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District Office, visited the site of the public cultural welfare space being created on the 2nd basement floor of Yeongdeungpo Times Square.

On this day, Mayor Choi received a briefing from related staff about the creation of the space and carefully inspected the preparation status for the opening while touring various facilities such as Yeongdeungpo Art Square and the Dokdo Experience Center.

Mayor Choi Ho-gwon said, “We are making final preparations such as facility inspections ahead of the opening of the public cultural welfare space in Times Square in October,” and added, “We will prepare without any setbacks so that it can serve as an open communication and cultural platform for all residents.”

On the afternoon of the 13th, Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo District Office, visited the ‘Sangam Hydrogen Charging Station’ and ‘Sangam Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant’ sites to tour the related facilities and hold a briefing with officials.

On this day, Mayor Park inspected hydrogen production and storage facilities and charging equipment, and discussed safety issues related to hydrogen manufacturing and storage with the energy corporation’s safety management officer.

The ‘Sangam Hydrogen Charging Station’ is a hydrogen production and charging facility installed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2010 within Noeul Park in Sangam-dong, and has been in full operation since October 2020 after a major capacity upgrade. The ‘Sangam Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant’ is also a hydrogen-related power generation facility installed and operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2017 within Noeul Park in Sangam-dong.

These facilities have become prominent representative nuisance facilities in Mapo District along with the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility, as controversies over hydrogen safety have continued since the 2019 hydrogen explosion case in Gangneung.

On the afternoon of the 13th at 3 p.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District Office, attended an environmental special lecture held in the district office’s small auditorium to raise awareness of carbon neutrality.

The district organized this education to understand the Carbon Neutrality Basic Act and to think together about the district’s role in overcoming the climate crisis.

The lecture was given by Park Yong-shin, Policy Committee Member of the Sustainability Center ‘Jiwoo’, and was held over two days on the 13th and 14th.

About 160 people attended the education, including Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District, district council members, and staff at the team leader level or higher. The program proceeded in the order of guest introductions, greetings, lecturer introduction, lecture, and Q&A.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District said, “As the intensity and frequency of abnormal weather have increased recently, interest and concern about the climate crisis are growing,” and added, “We will do our best as a local government to respond to the climate crisis by preparing various policies that can lead to action.”
