Confirmed by positive response from the Education Office during Provincial Assembly member Jeong Jae-wook's administrative inquiry
Education Office also expresses strong commitment to full-scale infrastructure development starting next year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] The Gyeongnam Office of Education has expressed a strong intention to actively promote the establishment of a high school in Jinju Innovation City.
On the 13th, Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member Jeong Jae-wook stated during a provincial administration inquiry that the Office of Education will begin full-scale preparations for establishing a high school starting next year by signing memorandums of understanding with various institutions, making the establishment of a high school in Innovation City a visible prospect.
On the first day of the 398th regular session of the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly, during Assemblyman Jeong’s inquiry regarding the establishment of a high school in Jinju Innovation City, Jo Young-gyu, the Administrative Director of the Office of Education, said, “We are reviewing various options including alternative relocations for establishing a high school within Innovation City. In particular, starting next year, to create a solid foundation for the high school establishment, we will sign memorandums of understanding with related organizations and report visible results,” officially confirming the plan to establish a high school in Innovation City.
The issue of establishing a high school in Jinju Innovation City was first raised by Assemblyman Jeong when he was a member of the 8th Jinju City Council. At that time, more than 10,000 citizens submitted petitions, and 48 civic groups united to argue the necessity of establishing the high school. Superintendent Park Jong-hoon also confirmed this as a campaign pledge during the last election, so this official response amid positive momentum is regarded as having even greater significance.
In response, Assemblyman Jeong said, “When I first raised the agenda of establishing a high school in Innovation City, some considered it reckless, but I am very pleased to receive such a positive response. I will continue to be a trustworthy politician who keeps promises to the citizens.”
Assemblyman Jeong also criticized the decision of the Sexual Harassment Grievance Committee regarding a middle school teacher in Jinju involved in sexual misconduct. He argued that the committee’s judgment not to classify the perpetrator’s sexually inappropriate behavior as sexual harassment but as the mildest violation of maintaining dignity was a wrong decision that disregarded the common sense of the residents and amounted to protecting their own.
Assemblyman Jeong said, “Although the Office of Education handled the related incident according to the manual, I doubt whether they would have taken active measures if additional victimized students had not reported to the police.”
