180 Spaces Across 4 Zones Including East Side of Chuncheonmun... Parking Spaces Among Top 20% of Seoul Public Parking Lots Based on Number of Spaces
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] While raising the utilization plan of Cheongwadae, which has become a local attraction sought by the entire nation, the parking lots near Cheongwadae will be fully opened to improve parking convenience for residents in the densely populated Cheongun and Hyoja-dong areas of Jongno-gu.
According to Seoul City on the 9th, Seoul City, Jongno-gu, and the Presidential Security Service are promoting the full opening of parking lots near Cheongwadae through mutual consultation and communication among the three organizations. This prioritizes improving parking convenience for Cheongun and Hyoja-dong residents, aiming to resolve parking difficulties caused by the surge in visitors and to improve issues such as illegal parking.
The Cheongun and Hyoja-dong areas have been suffering from chronic parking difficulties due to various rallies and visits to Tongin Market. In particular, with the recent opening of Cheongwadae and Gwanghwamun Square, the number of visitors to the nearby area has surged, causing difficulties in traffic flow.
Accordingly, Seoul City, Jongno-gu, and the Presidential Security Service have been reviewing the opening of parking lots near Cheongwadae as a measure to listen to residents' opinions and resolve their difficulties, and the three organizations decided on this full opening to promptly address civil complaints.
The parking lots to be opened include a total of four zones, such as the east side parking lot of Chunchoomun, mainly used by Cheongwadae staff and visiting reporters, with a total of 180 spaces. The secured area this time accounts for about the top 20% in terms of parking spaces among 129 public parking lots in Seoul.
With the relocation of the Presidential Office to Yongsan, the utilization rate of parking lots by staff, visiting reporters, and related personnel has decreased, and the three organizations have continuously promoted mutual consultation so that parking convenience can be returned to local residents.
First, Jongno-gu requested Seoul City and the Presidential Security Service to open parking lots near Cheongwadae to resolve local parking difficulties. Seoul City promoted a tripartite consultation among Seoul City, Jongno-gu, and the Security Service, leading to mutual agreement for Jongno-gu to manage and operate the parking lots near Cheongwadae to resolve parking complaints.
The "parking lots near Cheongwadae," which will be transformed into parking convenience facilities used by local residents, are scheduled to be opened after facility and environmental improvements such as the installation of parking barriers. After facility improvement construction and control equipment installation, they will be used as priority parking lots for Cheongwadae visitors and residents.
Seoul City, Jongno-gu, and the Presidential Security Service have agreed to establish a cooperative relationship for the smooth operation of Cheongwadae parking lots in the future. They also plan to promote public guidance so that local residents can use the parking lots smoothly.
Baek Ho, Director of Urban Transportation at Seoul City, said, “The opening of Cheongwadae parking lots through this tripartite consultation is expected to be an opportunity to resolve the long-standing parking difficulties of Cheongun and Hyoja-dong residents and improve citizen convenience,” adding, “We will strive to enable local residents to live without parking inconveniences through facility improvements as soon as possible.”
