[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] A plan to build a smart cargo terminal incorporating advanced automation technology at Incheon International Airport by 2025 is being promoted.

Hyundai Motor Group, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Hanjin Group signed a "Business Agreement for the Development of Automation Technology to Establish a Future Logistics Platform at Incheon Airport" on the 6th. This agreement is part of a phased implementation plan for developing future-type smart cargo terminal infrastructure established by Incheon International Airport Corporation in April last year.

According to this plan, Incheon Airport is preparing for digital transformation by introducing advanced automation technology into the currently labor-intensive and high-cost logistics environment to respond to the rapidly changing air logistics industry. Under this agreement, the three companies will collaborate to develop automation technology optimized for the logistics industry in the airside area of Incheon Airport, including runways and aircraft takeoff and landing zones.

Through this, Hyundai Motor Group explained that the goal is to develop the world's first cargo terminal applying 4th industrial revolution technologies at Incheon Airport around 2025. Hyundai Motor Group will verify the feasibility of utilizing mobility technologies such as automation technology, unmanned autonomous driving, and wearable robots within Incheon Airport by establishing a smart factory. Furthermore, they plan to test whether these technologies can be applied throughout the aviation and cargo ground handling sectors.
