[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will provide special meals to low-income marginalized groups in celebration of Chuseok on the 7th.

The Gwangjin-gu Care SOS Center is carrying out various customized projects for residents through the ‘Gwangjin-type Plus Care SOS Project.’ This time, they have prepared special meal support for Chuseok so that neighbors in need can spend a warm holiday without feeling emotional isolation or economic burden.

The support targets a total of 423 households, including ▲households not linked to other services after the end of care service support ▲those subject to welfare check-ins ▲and other low-income vulnerable groups in need of care. Each neighborhood community center selected recipients among elderly living alone, disabled persons, and households in welfare blind spots.

The special meal consists of traditional holiday foods such as ▲rice ▲beef radish soup ▲kimchi ▲three kinds of seasoned vegetables ▲japchae ▲donggeurangttaeng (Korean meat patties), delivered directly to recipients’ homes in lunchbox form that can be eaten immediately without additional cooking.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope the special meal support will help households in care blind spots have a warm holiday, even if just a little. We will continue to strive to make Gwangjin-gu a community that walks together with neighbors in need through various projects of the Care SOS Center.”

The Care SOS Center continues to promote projects such as ‘Family Care for Young Patients’ and ‘Short-term Care for Single-person Households after Discharge,’ and plans to intensively carry out the ‘Housing Convenience Service’ project in October to support households with poor housing conditions in commemoration of ‘Housing Day’ on the first Monday of October.

On the 6th at 1 p.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the ‘Sharing Love Songpyeon’ event held at the Nowon Citizens’ Hall.

This event was organized by the Nowon-gu Saemaul Women’s Association to deliver songpyeon to 220 households including multicultural families and marginalized groups in the district, aiming to share a warm Chuseok together.

This year, five multicultural families also participated to make songpyeon together. The Saemaul Women’s Association and Saemaul Leaders’ Council executives gathered at 10 a.m. to individually package the songpyeon, which was then delivered to beneficiary households by neighborhood at 3 p.m.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok expressed his gratitude, saying, “This will be a warm gift filled with the village’s affection for neighbors in need during Chuseok.”

The district plans to deliver the Love Packages, consisting of assorted jeon (Korean pancakes), fruits, rice cakes, and other holiday foods, to multicultural families and single-parent families in the area through the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I deeply appreciate the warm hands reaching out to neighbors in need without fail this year as well. The district will continue to implement various policies for socially vulnerable groups.”

Koscom has been carrying out various social contribution activities for low-income vulnerable groups since last year, including sharing nourishing meals for elderly living alone and providing informatization education for multicultural families. The total amount of donations made so far exceeds 60 million won.
