According to the police and fire authorities on the 6th, a fire broke out in several places within the Pohang Steelworks around 7:30 a.m., prompting emergency dispatch of fire and police forces to extinguish the fire and investigate the cause of the accident.

The fire appears to have occurred in the 2nd Hot Rolling Mill and the 2nd Steelmaking Plant within the steelworks.

A fire official stated, "It is not yet clear whether the accident was caused by the approach of Typhoon Hinnamnor," and said they are currently assessing the situation.

A company official said, "We understand that a large noise was followed by towering red flames and black smoke," adding, "We are investigating whether it is related to the typhoon."
