[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 5th that it will carry out a year-round used battery exchange project to prevent environmental pollution and practice carbon neutrality.
Used batteries contain heavy metals, so if disposed of as household waste, they can cause environmental pollution such as soil and water contamination during the disposal process.
However, if separated and disposed of properly, useful metal resources such as iron, zinc, and nickel can be recovered, minimizing environmental pollution.
Accordingly, the county plans to exchange 10 used batteries of any size collected at the eup/myeon administrative welfare centers for one set (2 pieces) of new batteries (AAA or AA type).
However, it is limited to a maximum of 10 sets per person.
A county official said, "As residents participate in the used battery exchange project, interest in resource circulation will naturally increase," adding, "We will continue to actively promote various resource recycling projects that can encourage voluntary participation of residents."
