Emergency Alert Level Eul (乙) Issued, 24-Hour Disaster Situation Room in Operation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency has suspended all police officers' leave following the activation of Emergency Level Eul (乙) from 6 p.m. on the 4th in preparation for Typhoon Hinnamnor.
According to the Provincial Police Agency, since 2 p.m. on the same day, a 24-hour disaster response situation room has been operating at the Provincial Police Agency and all 23 police stations within the province.
Earlier, on the 2nd, a video conference was held with all police chiefs in the province to inspect preparedness and response postures by function and by station.
On the weekend of the 3rd and 4th, local police including district units and police substations, as well as traffic police, were mobilized to pre-inspect about 1,000 habitual flooding areas such as Myeonggok Underpass in Changwon City and low-lying coastal areas in Geoje and Tongyeong.
Four specialized disaster management police mobile units for rescue and missing person searches were deployed in a distributed manner across three zones: Changwon, Eastern, and Western regions, establishing a readiness posture for dispatch.
Safety training was also conducted for police officers dispatched to the field, and the condition of life-saving equipment such as safety helmets, life jackets, and rescue ropes was checked.
A police agency official stated, “We have entered emergency duty to strengthen the situation management system and plan to exercise police authority such as traffic control and resident evacuation depending on the typhoon damage situation. We intend to respond with full force to minimize typhoon damage and ensure the safety of residents.”
