Encouraging Enrollment in Disaster Insurance Such as Flood and Crop Damage Insurance
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is planning to provide disaster relief funds before Chuseok to victims of private property damage such as loss of life and housing, as well as small business owners who suffered damage from flooding due to last month's heavy rain.
According to the province on the 5th, based on the joint survey results of heavy rain damage identified by the 28th of last month, a total of 3.131 billion KRW, including 1.958 billion KRW in national treasury support, will be paid in advance to affected residents and small business owners before the recovery plan is finalized.
Hongcheon-gun, which suffered the greatest damage in the province, is scheduled to receive 941 million KRW (1,242 cases), and Hoengseong-gun will receive 1.025 billion KRW (1,692 cases). These two cities/counties account for 54% of the total number of payments and 63% of the total amount in the province.
Including Chuncheon, six cities/counties will receive 1.165 billion KRW for 2,546 cases. The final damage amount, disaster relief funds, and recovery costs due to the heavy rain will be confirmed in September after central review.
Meanwhile, the province urged each city and county to monitor disaster risk areas such as steep slopes according to the path of the approaching typhoon 'Hinnamnor,' and advised residents to refrain from going out to dangerous areas during the typhoon.
Residents who have not subscribed to government-supported disaster insurance such as wind and flood insurance and crop damage insurance were urged to enroll in insurance.
