[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] On the afternoon of the 4th, as Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor' was moving northward toward the Korean Peninsula and its indirect influence was felt, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, visited the drainage pump station in Ponam-dong, Gangneung City, where typhoon damage had occurred in the past, to check the preparedness situation and urged thorough damage prevention.

After attending a video conference chaired by the President with ministers of relevant departments and governors of metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide to review the response status, Governor Kim emphasized, "This typhoon is accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain, raising concerns about significant damage," and added, "I hope everyone actively works to protect lives and minimize damage to the residents."

In the low-lying area of Ponam-dong, flooding damage occurred during Typhoon No. 18 'Mitag' in 2019 due to insufficient capacity of the drainage pump station. Since then, 49.5 billion KRW has been invested to expand the pump station and construct and maintain new inflow pipelines.

Meanwhile, under the governor's special directive, the province held a typhoon response status meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor at 4 p.m. on the same day, and at 5 p.m., elevated the Gangwon Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to Level 2 to fully mobilize efforts for damage prevention.
