[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyun] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, celebrating its 50th anniversary, has published its company history to reflect on its past journey and prepare for the next 50 years of the future.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Group announced on the 4th that it has published the "Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 50-Year History," documenting half a century since its founding in 1972.

The 50-year history of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group is composed of three volumes: general history, growth stories, and photo collections. Based on the management philosophy of founder Chung Ju-yung, known as the Hyundai Spirit, it clearly organizes the group's emergence, overcoming adversity, and growth process.

In particular, it recounts the story of founder Chung Ju-yung establishing the shipyard with a 500-won bill and a photo of Ulsan’s white sandy beach, reflecting on the milestones of the past 50 years, such as reaching the top of the global shipbuilding industry within 10 years of its founding. It also details the group’s preparation for the next 100 years, including the Hydrogen Dream 2030 initiative to build a hydrogen value chain and the establishment of the Global R&D Center (GRC), which will be the core of future technology management.

The first volume, the general history, is divided into six periods, chronologically organizing the group’s half-century journey from the moment Hyundai Heavy Industries was established in 1972 and took its first step toward shipbuilding nation-building, to the present where it leads a new heavy industry paradigm with advanced technology.

The second volume, growth stories, is divided into three themes: ▲founding and growth ▲products and technology ▲sustainable management. It features behind-the-scenes stories of events and interviews with related figures, creating a vivid narrative. It includes 50 representative episodes that have driven Hyundai Heavy Industries Group over the past 50 years, such as "Simultaneous shipyard construction and shipbuilding," "Development of the powerful engine, a pride of Korea," and "Establishment of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation."

The third volume, the photo collection, is differentiated by presenting the group’s half-century history and current business status through photos capturing key moments, making it more engaging for readers.

Chairman Kwon Oh-gap of HD Hyundai stated in the foreword, “We accepted heavy industry, which began with ‘creative foresight,’ as a heavy mission, and over the past 50 years, we have realized many things with ‘active will’ and ‘strong driving force.’ We have tried to view the past history with an honest perspective, reflection, and introspection, while also striving to set a new direction on how to move forward beyond 50 years toward the 100-year future.”

The "Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 50-Year History" has also been produced as an electronic file, making it easily accessible to anyone on the group’s website.
