[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] On the 4th, it was announced that the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and POSCO Flow held the 'POSCO Doi Park Forest Groundbreaking Ceremony' on the 2nd at Seonghwang Neighborhood Park in Doi-dong, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do.

The POSCO Doi Park Forest aims to reduce carbon emissions. As of last year, approximately 134,000 tons of carbon were emitted from a domestic transportation volume of 21 million tons. The project budget was secured through joint contributions from 14 logistics partner companies.

The forest will occupy an area of 3 hectares within Seonghwang Neighborhood Park in Gwangyang-si. Construction will proceed over four months until the end of this year, creating a nature-friendly urban garden forest centered on tree species with excellent carbon reduction capabilities, such as oak, pine, and cypress.

The groundbreaking ceremony proceeded in the order of a business agreement, unveiling of a monument, commemorative tree planting, keynote speeches and progress reports, congratulatory speeches, presentation of appreciation plaques, and commemorative photos. In the second part of the event, a 'With POSCO Tree Planting Event' was held with Gwangyang citizens. Participants included Lim Shin-hyuk, Vice Chairman of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation; Kim Kwang-soo, CEO of POSCO Flow; CEOs of the 14 logistics partner companies; Seo Dong-yong, member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party; Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang; and Lim Sang-seop, Deputy Director of the Korea Forest Service, among others.

Vice Chairman Lim stated, "The greatest victims of climate change are the future generation children," adding, "It is very important to prepare a sustainable life for children." CEO Kim said, "I am pleased to take the first step in creating the POSCO Doi Garden Forest for carbon reduction," and added, "POSCO Flow will continue to invest generously for carbon neutrality and coexistence with local communities."
