[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Hong Nampyo, mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, visited the Masanhappo-gu Masan Marine New City West Port District in Changwon City together with Choi Hyungdu, a member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, to inspect the drainage pump station and disaster prevention embankment in preparation for the typhoon.
After the disaster countermeasure meeting that day, Mayor Hong checked the normal operation of facilities and the status of facility management in the disaster-prone areas of the West Port District, and distributed sandbags to shops and homes in low-lying coastal flood-prone areas.
According to the city, the West Port Drainage Pump Station is a facility that prevents frequent flooding in the Haeun-dong and Wolyeong-dong areas of Masanhappo-gu, which suffer from water damage when heavy rain falls all at once or a typhoon approaches.
It performs optimal disaster prevention functions during the annual recurring monsoon season or heavy rainfall.
Mayor Hong said, “This typhoon Hinnamnor will bring very strong winds and heavy rain,” and instructed, “The drainage pump station is an important facility that protects citizens' lives and property from flood damage, so prepare to ensure it operates timely.”
He added, “Please thoroughly prepare for the typhoon's impact and do your best to prevent any loss of life or property damage.”
