[Seoul District News] Dongjak-gu Provides 500,000 KRW per Household to Help Flood Victims and Property Owners Quickly Recover... Additional 2 Million KRW Disaster Relief for Flooded Households
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak District, visited semi-basement houses damaged by heavy rain to listen to residents' difficulties and explain the drainage of sewage water.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it will promptly provide the ‘Dongjak-gu Independent Disaster Relief Fund’ for residents affected by the heavy rain last month.
The district decided to provide the ‘Dongjak-gu Independent Disaster Relief Fund’ separately from the government disaster relief fund, recognizing the urgent need for direct and practical support for flood-affected residents.
This ‘Independent Disaster Relief Fund’ is the first to be implemented among local governments affected by the heavy rain on August 8, and the district plans to complete the payments before Chuseok to help residents affected by flooding quickly return to their daily lives.
The recipients include ▲households and building owners recognized for flood damage reported and confirmed in the National Disaster Management System (NDMS) ▲and residents of Geukdong Apartments Buildings 105 and 107 in Sadang-dong, who suffered damage due to a retaining wall collapse on the 8th.
Households registered in the NDMS and residents of Geukdong Apartments Buildings 105 and 107 will receive 500,000 KRW per household, and building owners of NDMS-registered damaged households will receive up to 2 million KRW.
The disaster relief fund is scheduled to be distributed smoothly over two days from the 5th to the 6th, but application and payment dates may change depending on the progress.
Earlier last month, the district urgently secured recovery funds by preparing an additional supplementary budget of 8 billion KRW to provide an initial payment of 2 million KRW per household to flood-affected households.
Furthermore, with Dongjak-gu being designated as a special disaster area on the 1st, residents will receive 18 benefits including exemptions from national tax payments and local tax reductions available to general disaster areas, as well as 12 additional supports such as health insurance reductions and discounts on electricity, telecommunications, and city gas bills, which are expected to help stabilize the lives of affected residents.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “Considering the difficulties faced by residents affected by the heavy rain, we decided to mobilize all available resources, including contingency funds, to provide the independent disaster relief fund,” and added, “We will make every effort to ensure residents’ swift recovery before Chuseok.”
