Education Office Receives Statement from Student A... "It Happened Because We Usually Get Along Casually"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] It has been reported that the teacher involved in the controversy over students lying down on the podium during class, taking off their shirts, and filming the teacher with a smartphone expressed that they "do not wish to punish the students."
On the 30th, the Chungnam Hongseong Office of Education stated that they obtained statements from three students involved in the filming and the female teacher. The education office also requested a police investigation regarding whether the students filmed the incident.
According to the education office, student A reportedly stated that he did not film homeroom teacher B with his phone. A also claimed that although it appears in the video that the student is lying down, he only briefly approached the podium to charge his smartphone. Teacher B is also said to have stated that she does not wish to punish the students and denied experiencing any "violation of teacher authority" as suggested by some.
The school also explained that the student's behavior in the video occurred because the teacher and students are usually close. The school stated, "This happened because the teacher and students usually interact without formality."
Meanwhile, on the 26th, a 12-second video was posted on social media. The video shows a male student lying down behind the female homeroom teacher during class, holding a phone and seemingly filming the teacher from below. Another male student is seen shirtless, speaking to the female teacher. Online, this video has sparked controversy, with many saying it reflects the current state of the "decline of teacher authority."
