Samyook University will select 839 students in the 2023 academic year early admission. The main admission types within the quota are △Student Record Excellence Admission (205 students) △Seum Talent Admission (178 students) △General Admission (171 students). The admission type selecting the most students is the Student Record Excellence Admission (academic record). All departments select students based on 100% of the student record. Grades for all subjects in Korean, English, Math, and Inquiry (Social Studies and Science) up to the first semester of the third year are reflected without grade-level weighting.
The minimum CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) requirement is that the combined score of two subjects among Korean, English, Math, and Inquiry (one subject) must be within grade 6. For the Department of Pharmacy, the combined score of three subjects must be within grade 5. Vocational Inquiry is also recognized as an inquiry subject, but it is not accepted for the Department of Pharmacy.
The Seum Talent Admission is a comprehensive student record admission type, selecting four times the number of candidates in the first stage based on 100% document evaluation, and in the second stage, combining 60% of the first stage score and 40% interview score for final selection. The first stage document evaluation comprehensively assesses school records and self-introduction letters based on evaluation criteria such as academic ability, major suitability, potential for development, and character. Academic grades are comprehensively evaluated in comparison with the content of the self-introduction letter.
Starting this year, the Department of Pharmacy will also admit new students (3 students) through the Seum Talent Admission, a comprehensive student record admission type. The General Admission is based on academic record plus interview, selecting five times the number of candidates in the first stage by combining academic record (80%), attendance (10%), and volunteer work (10%). In the second stage, 60% of the first stage score and 40% of the interview score are combined for evaluation. The General Admission reflects only the top three subjects (50%, 35%, 15%). The score difference between grades 1 to 5 is only 0.5 points, making the interview very important.
The minimum CSAT requirement applies only to the Department of Pharmacy. The combined score of three subjects among Korean, English, Math, and Inquiry (one subject, excluding vocational inquiry) must be within grade 5. The Department of Pharmacy will select a total of 23 students in this year’s early admission, including △Student Record Excellence Admission (academic record) 8 students △General Admission (academic record) 4 students △Seum Talent Admission (comprehensive) 3 students △Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Recommendation Admission (comprehensive) 3 students △Opportunity Equalization Admission (outside quota) 3 students △Special Education Target Admission (outside quota) 2 students. Cross-application is possible for all admission types.
Kim Myung-hee, Director of Admissions, explained, "Since the 2022 academic year, the Student Record Excellence Admission has applied the minimum CSAT requirement to all departments for the first time, and compared to the previous year (2021 academic year), the final successful candidates’ student record grades have generally lowered. This trend is expected to continue in the 2023 early admission, so it is important to check each department’s CSAT minimum criteria and devise a strategy accordingly."
