2022 Goheung Namyeol National Surfing Competition Successfully Concluded

A Festival and Showcase Event Featuring Stunts by Over 300 Surfers Nationwide Held

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the ‘2022 Goheung Namyeol National Surfing Competition,’ held over two days from the 27th to the 28th at Namyeol Sunrise Beach in Yeongnam-myeon, was successfully conducted.

About 300 athletes and enthusiasts from all over the country participated in this competition, showcasing their honed skills to the fullest, and it was held as a surfer festival event marking the end of summer.

In particular, Namyeol Beach has been hosting surfing competitions annually since 2014, and in 2019, it became known as a famous surfing venue where the first domestic national team selection event was held following the inclusion of surfing as an official event in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, who attended the event, said in his welcoming speech, “I am very honored to hold the national surfing competition at Goheung Namyeol Beach, which boasts beautiful scenery, and I hope that the ‘Goheung Aerospace Cup Jeollanam-do Jokgu Competition’ will continue to develop with the abundant love of jokgu enthusiasts.”

A county official stated, “We hope that everyone who came from all over the country during this competition period fully enjoys the taste and charm of Goheung and heals their body and mind tired from daily life in Goheung, the home of surfing.”

Meanwhile, in this competition, ▲Men’s Longboard winner was Kim Dong-gyun (National Team) ▲Women’s Longboard winner was Park Su-jin (Yangyang City) ▲Men’s and Women’s Shortboard winners were Kanoa (Yangyang City) and Lee Na-ra (Siheung City), respectively, who enjoyed their victories.
