[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, has begun his first neighborhood visits of the 8th local government term to address local issues and strengthen on-site administration.
Starting with Oryu 2-dong on the 29th, Mayor Moon will tour 16 neighborhoods, meeting with heads of local organizations in each neighborhood to listen to opinions and suggestions on major local issues, and share the policies and administrative directions of Guro-gu for the 8th local government term.
Mayor Moon’s neighborhood visits will be conducted in a casual atmosphere without special events, in the form of informal meetings.
He will also take time to encourage the staff working at the neighborhood community centers, who are on the front lines of local administration.
Mayor Moon said, “I will ensure that the outcomes of these neighborhood visits lead to residents’ happiness and changes in Guro-gu. I will identify what residents want and implement administration that truly helps their lives.”
The schedule for the neighborhood visits is as follows: ▲ August 29 - Oryu 2-dong ▲ September 1 - Sindorim-dong ▲ 2 - Guro 1-dong ▲ 5 - Gaebong 3-dong ▲ 7 - Gaebong 1-dong ▲ 14 - Guro 2-dong, Guro 3-dong ▲ 15 - Gocheok 1-dong, Gocheok 2-dong ▲ 16 - Guro 4-dong, Garibong-dong ▲ 19 - Oryu 1-dong, Sugung-dong ▲ 20 - Gaebong 2-dong, Guro 5-dong ▲ 21 - Hang-dong.
After completing these visits, Mayor Moon Heon-il plans to continue on-site activities under the vision of ‘Warm Companionship, Changing Guro,’ listening sincerely to residents’ opinions.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, presented the appointment certificate to In Taek-hwan, the new chairman of the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation, on the morning of the 29th at the mayor’s office.
The corporation will begin operations under the new chairman from September 1. Chairman In Taek-hwan served as a member of the Dongdaemun-gu Council from 1991 to 1995 and as a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council from 2010 to 2014, working to promote regional development and improve welfare for Dongdaemun-gu residents.
Chairman In said, “Based on my experience as a district and city council member, I will do my best to manage facilities so that residents do not experience inconvenience when using local facilities and to provide various services tailored to residents’ needs.”
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “I ask Chairman In Taek-hwan to lead the corporation well so that our residents can enjoy happier lives. The district office will actively support and cooperate.”
The Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation manages and operates public libraries, sports and cultural facilities, parking facilities, and public and recreational facilities to ensure a rich and happy life for Dongdaemun-gu residents.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, attended the 1st board meeting of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Disabled Sports Association held in the auditorium of the district office annex on the afternoon of the 29th.
At this meeting, the current status of the organization and the results of the first half of the year’s projects were shared, and plans for the second half of the year’s projects and various competitions were discussed, exchanging diverse opinions for the development of disabled sports.
Mayor Choi said, “I thank the executives and committee members of the Sports Association who always work hard to promote disabled sports. The district office will provide generous support so that people with disabilities can lead healthy and happy lives.”
Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, attended the ‘2022 Senior Center Leaders Training’ held in the large auditorium on the 2nd floor of Mapo-gu Office on the 29th.
About 310 people, including senior center presidents and treasurers from Mapo-gu, participated in the training, receiving education on handling major complaints and accounting at senior centers.
Mayor Park said, “I hope the senior center leaders here will apply the exemplary cases from this training to their centers and work hard to make better senior centers. Mapo-gu will also develop various welfare policies to create a happy environment for our elderly residents.”
In fact, the district is promoting the ‘Meal Program for Residents Aged 75 and Older.’ Through this, balanced meals will be provided to seniors aged 75 and above to prevent malnutrition, and meal halls will be used as communication spaces for seniors to prevent depression and solitary deaths.
Initially, two pilot neighborhoods will be selected, and the program will be piloted for seniors aged 75 and older who need meals, with plans to gradually expand the scope step by step.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) finalized projects worth about 2.1 billion KRW for the 2023 Resident Participatory Budget on the 29th.
In the afternoon, the district held a ‘Resident Participatory Budget Committee General Meeting’ in the large conference room of the district office, attended by about 60 people including Mayor Kim Tae-woo, committee members, and related officials.
At the meeting, the committee reviewed and approved 20 detailed projects worth about 2.1 billion KRW to be reflected in the 2023 budget.
The selected projects include a music and arts festival, installation of AI-based smart surveillance cameras, and maintenance of children’s parks, covering areas such as culture and arts, safety, welfare, and daily inconvenience issues.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “The resident participatory budgeting system, where residents lead project discovery and budget allocation, is an important process for true democracy. Please strive to discover innovative ideas and projects that enhance residents’ convenience.”
Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, attended the ‘Shinmok Credit Union Love Scholarship Award Ceremony’ held in the Open Participation Room of Yangcheon-gu Office on the afternoon of the 29th.
Shinmok Credit Union donated 10 million KRW for youth, and the donated funds will be distributed as scholarships of 500,000 KRW each to a total of 20 high school and university students in the region through the Yangcheon Love Welfare Foundation.
Mayor Lee said, “I deeply thank Shinmok Credit Union for their generous social contribution activities for regional development every year. We will carefully deliver the scholarship to support the dreams of future talents who will lead Yangcheon.”
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, visited the ‘2022 Dobong-gu Small Business Association Chuseok Happiness Support Market’ held on the 26th at the underpass plaza of Exit 1 of Chang-dong Station.
On that day, Mayor Oh encouraged local small business owners participating in the market and personally purchased goods.
Mayor Oh said, “To promote and introduce affordable and quality local products, we set up the Happiness Support Market at the busy underpass of Chang-dong Station. I ask everyone to actively use local small business products and traditional markets this Chuseok.”
