Saemaeul Geumgo Holds Emergency Meeting Over Gender Discrimination Abuse Controversy, "Strengthening Monitoring"

[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association announced on the 29th that it held an emergency countermeasure meeting to eradicate gapjil (abuse of power).

The meeting, urgently presided over by Park Cha-hoon, Chairman of Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association on the 26th, was organized to discuss measures to eradicate gapjil cases and similar acts within Saemaeul Geumgo.

Chairman Park emphasized the protection of victims by the rapid inspection team dispatched to the financial institutions recently reported in the media and stressed thorough fact-finding investigations. He also ordered active follow-up measures such as disciplinary actions against those involved.

According to Workplace Gapjil 119 and others, A, who joined a Saemaeul Geumgo in Namwon in 2020, was reportedly instructed to cook rice, wash dishes, and do laundry, sparking controversy over gapjil. A claimed that gender-discriminatory gapjil persisted, such as making female employees cook rice at Saemaeul Geumgo.

To prevent recurrence of similar cases, Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association decided to conduct special guidance targeting all Saemaeul Geumgo branches and carry out organizational culture diagnostics on workplace harassment for all employees, utilizing the results for inspections, education, and rewards for the branches.

Additionally, the association plans to actively strengthen company-wide monitoring of unfair orders or harassment against employees and promote consulting to improve the organizational culture of the branches.

Chairman Park emphasized, "We must seriously recognize the gravity of the situation and devote ourselves not only to eradicating gapjil in Saemaeul Geumgo but also to fundamentally improving the organizational culture to create a workplace where employees are happy and trusted by the local community."
