Jeongeup-si Supports Pig Shipment Fees Until the 8th of Next Month

Jeongeup-si Supports Pig Shipment Fees Until the 8th of Next Month

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, announced that it will support shipment fees for all pigs (excluding those of inferior grade) shipped during the peak season before Chuseok to reduce consumer burden and stabilize livestock farmers' income.

The city stated on the 26th that it will provide a shipment fee of 10,000 KRW per pig to farmers who ship pigs by the 8th of next month, aiming to improve the perception of Korean pork by offering consumers high-quality pork.

The support targets owners of pigs slaughtered by the 8th of next month who have received grade evaluations (1+, 1, 2 grades).

Farmers who ship pigs during the support period can apply at the town or township office or the community service center's industry team where their farm is located from the 13th to the 30th of next month, after Chuseok.

However, if the budget is exhausted early, shipment fees will be supported in the order of earlier slaughter dates.

The city expects this shipment fee support project to promote pig shipments before Chuseok, stabilize supply and demand, and help prevent oversupply after Chuseok.

In particular, it is anticipated to reduce the burden on livestock farmers who are experiencing excessive production costs due to soaring feed prices caused by the rise in international grain prices.

A city official said, "By encouraging pig shipments during the Chuseok peak season and increasing volume, we will contribute to stabilizing consumer prices, and also partially alleviate the economic burden on pig farmers caused by increased feed and transportation costs due to high inflation."

Meanwhile, as of the end of last year, 124 farms in the Jeongeup area are raising 324,384 pigs.
