Pony Pickup, Grandeur, Stella and More Appear
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company's retro vehicles make a grand appearance in the Netflix film "Seoul Vibe," which is simultaneously released worldwide on the 26th, offering a spectacular visual experience.
"Seoul Vibe" is a car-chase action thriller set in 1988, revolving around the Sanggye-dong Supreme Team, who dream of the American Dream and get involved in a VIP slush fund investigation operation after receiving an irresistible offer. The film stars well-known actors Yoo Ah-in, Go Kyung-pyo, Park Ju-hyun, Oh Jung-se, and others, generating buzz even before its release.
Hyundai Motor Company collaborated with Netflix from the production stage to feature retro vehicles that defined the 1980s, such as the Pony Pickup, first-generation Grandeur, second-generation Sonata, Stella, and Cortina. Hyundai also provided the site of its former Wonhyo-ro Service Center as a filming location.
The Pony Pickup, the first pickup truck modified from Korea's first independently produced model, the Pony, showcases a unique style through tuning in the film and plays a pivotal role in the protagonists' slush fund recovery operation with its thrilling driving performance.
Additionally, the character driving a white first-generation Grandeur emphasizes the car's youthful and sophisticated image, reflecting the Grandeur's ongoing innovation from the past to the present in the film.
With the film's release, Hyundai Motor Company plans to launch various new customer experience activities targeting car enthusiasts and the MZ generation by leveraging the movie content.
First, using the plot and cast of "Seoul Vibe," a cinematic digital advertisement video produced like a spin-off of the film will reveal the exterior silhouette of the new Grandeur, set to be released later this year. The video will express the heritage of the Grandeur and deliver hidden information about the new model to heighten anticipation.
The video can be viewed on Hyundai Motor Company's official YouTube and Instagram channels, as well as on outdoor advertisements around Dosan-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and near Banpo Central City.
Moreover, targeting the MZ generation, Hyundai will newly decorate the popular world "Driving Zone" within the metaverse platform ZEPETO, vividly recreating the protagonists' hideout, the vehicle repair shop "Ppangkkusa," from the film. A virtual experience program will allow users to assemble or drive the vehicles featured in the movie.
Additionally, various customer participation events are planned, such as the "ZEPETO User Vlog," where users dress their avatars in the outfits of the film characters, find the hidden cinematic digital advertisement videos in the Driving Zone, record their search, and upload it to their ZEPETO feed.
Furthermore, Hyundai Motor Company will hold a special exhibition from September 29 to October 28 at Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul (located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, 4th floor), showcasing the Pony Pickup tuning car and the first-generation Grandeur used in the actual film shooting.
Alongside the exhibition, a test drive program will be operated, allowing visitors to experience driving the same models as those on display. The test drives will be conducted on-site, where participants ride in cars driven by a designated GURU, enjoying road driving.
A Hyundai Motor Company representative stated, "We have strived to convey the vehicles that embody Hyundai Motor Company's history with a modern sensibility and unique charm to our customers. We will continue to provide customers with fresh enjoyment through partnerships with various platforms and evolved content."
