[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man who caused anxiety among residents by throwing furniture and home appliances out of the veranda from the 9th floor of an apartment was apprehended by the police.

On the 25th, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that they arrested a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of attempted special injury and placed him under emergency hospitalization.

Emergency hospitalization refers to admitting a person with a mental illness who is likely to harm themselves or others to a psychiatric medical institution with the consent of a doctor and police officer. This measure lasts up to 72 hours excluding the day of admission, and the hospitalization period can be extended through administrative hospitalization based on a specialist's judgment.

Mr. A is accused of shouting loudly and throwing dozens of pieces of furniture, including a TV, computer monitor, electronic piano, and nightstand, out of the window from the 9th floor of a mixed-use residential and commercial apartment in Bongcheon-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, for over an hour starting around 11 a.m. on the 23rd. Fortunately, the furniture Mr. A threw fell onto the rooftop of a commercial building on the 2nd floor, and no casualties were reported.

The police, who responded to the report, immediately arrested Mr. A and, judging that he needed treatment, transported him to a hospital.

The police stated, "Mr. A's speech and behavior were abnormal, and we judged there was a risk of self-harm and harm to others, so we took hospitalization measures," adding, "We plan to continue the police investigation."
