Evezari Sleep Environment Research Institute Introduces Bedding Replacement Methods for Seasonal Change

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Evezarie Sleep Environment Research Institute introduced bedding replacement methods for the changing seasons as autumn approaches.

The changing season to refresh your sleeping space is approaching, but the blankets used during summer still retain moisture due to frequent rain. Additionally, the rapidly increasing temperature difference between day and night makes it difficult to maintain body temperature during sleep and disrupts deep sleep. For a full autumn bedding replacement, Evezarie Sleep Environment Research Institute recommended summer blanket storage management methods and early autumn bedding selection tips.

Jo Eun-ja, Deputy Director of Evezarie Sleep Environment Research Institute, emphasized, "Due to this summer's unusually repeated heatwaves and heavy rains, damp bedding can easily harbor harmful bacteria inside, so it is important to completely remove moisture before storing it," adding, "At the same time, during the changing season when dawn temperatures drop sharply, bedding that helps maintain body temperature aids sleep."

Sunlight disinfection is the most effective way to remove moisture from bedding fillings such as summer comforters and goose down inserts. The method is to expose both the front and back sides evenly to sunlight between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., allowing ultraviolet rays to be absorbed on the fiber surface to eliminate moisture. It is best to avoid days following rain or with high humidity, and since drying for too long can damage fibers, spend about 3 to 4 hours removing moisture.

Also, bedding covers used during midsummer sleep are heavily soiled with salt and oils, the main components of sweat and sebum, so they should be washed with warm water that dissolves these well. Using baking soda to prevent mold growth and vinegar for sterilization and deodorization during washing is effective. Since bedding washed in humid weather dries slowly and bacteria can multiply during this time, quick drying is also important. Depending on the material, use a dryer, or if high-temperature drying is difficult, lower humidity indoors with air conditioning or a dehumidifier to dry.

When storing summer bedding, it is recommended to keep some space for ventilation rather than stacking tightly. Using a blanket hanger to store bedding like hanging clothes in a closet is also an option. Placing comforter fillings in non-woven fabric bags is another good storage method. Inserting moisture-proof paper between the surfaces that touch the blanket prevents fibers from becoming damp.

For bedding suitable for the changing season, quilted comforters with fillings inside the cover are good. Comforters using modal or asa fabrics as covers, which gently wrap the body, help maintain body temperature against the cold night air. Goose down bedding also has the characteristic of appropriately maintaining body temperature against external temperature changes. Wool bedding’s curly fiber structure helps air circulation, reducing the impact of outside air during sleep.
