[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Presidential Security Service inspected the security situation at former President Park Geun-hye's residence in Dalseong, Daegu, following the inspection of former President Moon Jae-in's residence in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, the Presidential Office announced on the 22nd.
A Presidential Office official responded to a question at Yongsan on the same day asking, "Are there any security measures for residences other than former President Moon Jae-in's residence?" by saying, "I understand that the Chief of Security also went to check the situation at former President Park Geun-hye's residence."
The official explained, "After hearing the Speaker of the National Assembly's opinion that additional safety risks have emerged due to items such as box cutters and replica guns in Pyeongsan Village, requiring more attention to security, (President Yoon Suk-yeol) instructed the Security Service, and the Chief of Security went down."
He added, "Security for former presidents is governed by legal regulations. Naturally, if there is something to check, it is only right to do so," and "I understand that necessary measures were taken accordingly."
The Security Service announced to the media the previous day, "The security zone near former President Moon Jae-in's residence in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, has been expanded and re-designated," explaining, "The existing security zone was up to the residence fence, but it has been expanded up to 300 meters from the fence."
They continued, "This measure was taken based on the judgment that it is necessary to strengthen the security of the former president due to safety hazards such as replica guns and box cutters appearing during assemblies and protests in Pyeongsan Village," and "The suffering of Pyeongsan Village residents who complain of difficulties in daily life was also taken into consideration."
