[Seoul District News] Dongdaemun-gu Operates Online Direct Market for Agricultural and Marine Products from August 25 to September 6 for Chuseok & Online Orders and Payments Available on Dongdaemun-gu Office Website or Pre-orders at District Office and Dong Community Centers... Gangseo-gu Operates ‘Chuseok Direct Market’ on August 30-31
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) will operate the ‘Chuseok Agricultural and Marine Products Online Direct Market’ from August 25 to September 6, selling high-quality products at prices lower than the market price in celebration of the traditional Korean holiday, Chuseok.
The online direct market was established to support farmers struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn. By expanding sales channels online in line with rapidly changing consumer trends, it is expected to increase farmers' income.
This online direct market includes participation from Dongdaemun-gu’s sister cities: Yeoju-si, Yeoncheon-gun, Chuncheon-si, Cheongyang-gun, Jecheon-si, Eumseong-gun, Naju-si, Boseong-gun, Sunchang-gun, Buan-gun, Namhae-gun, Sangju-si, and Cheongsong-gun. They will sell about 30 items including ▲Cheongsong apples ▲Naju pears ▲Eumseong chili peppers ▲Namhae anchovies.
The online direct market operates in two ways. Customers can place orders and make payments online by accessing the Dongdaemun-gu Office website and clicking on the bulletin board (banner) linking to the sister cities’ direct market shopping mall, or they can purchase through pre-orders at the district office and local community centers.
Delivery will take place sequentially from August 29 to September 8, with sister city farmers shipping directly to the consumers’ desired addresses.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We have launched an online direct market where you can purchase high-quality products sold by our sister cities at affordable prices in celebration of Chuseok. We ask for your interest and support so that you can share your heart with those around you through products purchased at the online direct market this Chuseok and help farmers facing difficulties.”
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) will operate a ‘Chuseok Direct Market’ for two days from August 30 to 31 in the district office parking lot.
This event was organized to reduce the burden on residents preparing for the holiday, as the average price of major seasonal products has risen about 7.1% compared to last year’s Chuseok amid soaring inflation.
Since 2000, the direct market held jointly by Gangseo-gu and its sister cities has been very popular among residents preparing holiday tables because it allows easy purchase of high-quality local agricultural and specialty products.
Due to COVID-19, the market was held online for two years starting from Chuseok 2020, but this time residents will be welcomed directly at the district office parking lot.
Eleven sister cities including Imsil-gun, Sangju-si, Taean-gun, Gangneung-si, and Haman-gun will gather at this market to sell top-quality local agricultural and specialty products such as Korean beef, grains, and fruits.
In particular, by eliminating intermediate distribution processes, products will be sold at prices lower than market prices, which is expected to significantly ease residents’ shopping burdens ahead of the holiday.
The market opens at 10 a.m. and operates until 5 p.m. on the 30th and until 4 p.m. on the 31st.
A district official said, “This is a great opportunity to purchase high-quality, safe food directly from production areas. We hope residents prepare economically at the direct market this Chuseok.”
