[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] From now on, the special volume-based waste bag PP sack 50ℓ will disappear in Miryang City, Gyeongnam.
On the 22nd, Miryang City announced that it will stop producing the 50ℓ PP sacks to prevent sanitation workers from suffering safety accidents such as fractures during work.
A city official explained that the already purchased 50ℓ bags can be used, but no new ones will be made.
The city plans to produce and supply 20-liter bags once the stock of about 20,000 sheets is exhausted.
According to the city, in the past three years, about 1,900 sanitation workers have experienced safety accidents during work, and among them, 20% were injured while carrying heavy garbage bags.
The 50ℓ PP sack originally had a weight limit of 13 kg or less, but due to the nature of non-combustible general waste, this was not well observed, leading the Ministry of Environment to revise the waste fee volume-based system implementation guidelines in January this year.
The Ministry of Environment changed the regulations to limit the PP sack size to 20ℓ or less to protect the safety and health of sanitation workers from musculoskeletal and spinal diseases.
Mayor Park Il-ho said, “Considering the difficulties of our neighbors, the sanitation workers, we hope you will now use the special 20ℓ sacks instead of the heavy 50ℓ ones.”
