[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 19th, President Yoon Suk-yeol urged the National Assembly leadership, saying, "I hope that the National Assembly and the government can show the people together how they are working tirelessly day and night for the livelihood of the people."
President Yoon made these remarks during a dinner with the second half of the 21st National Assembly leadership at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon. The dinner was attended by newly appointed Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, Deputy Speakers Kim Young-joo and Chung Jin-seok, Secretary General of the National Assembly Lee Kwang-jae, Presidential Chief of Staff Kim Dae-gi, and Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Lee Jin-bok.
President Yoon first said, "I appreciate you taking the precious time to come all the way to Yongsan despite your busy legislative activities," adding, "As I mentioned at the 100-day press conference the day before yesterday, we are doing our best to respond to the crisis and revive the livelihood economy despite the difficult global economic situation."
He continued, "If we join forces with the National Assembly, it will be a strength to the people. I ask for your great support," emphasizing, "The regular session of the National Assembly will begin next month, and I hope that the National Assembly and the government can show the people together how they are working tirelessly day and night for the livelihood of the people."
President Yoon particularly requested, "There are some necessary legal amendments, and we will also submit several bills to the National Assembly," adding, "We need to carefully manage bills for stabilizing the housing market, revitalizing the economy, and fostering future strategic industries and food industries. I ask the Speaker, Deputy Speakers, and Secretary General to provide much assistance."
In response, Speaker Kim said, "The President must be extremely busy, but I sincerely thank you for taking the time to call our National Assembly leadership."
He added, "Because you called us today, the people will feel and be reassured that the President values cooperation with the National Assembly in the current situation of a minority government ahead of the regular session."
He also pledged, "Our National Assembly will also prioritize the most urgent livelihood issues through bipartisan agreement," and said, "The ruling and opposition parties are currently selecting the bills that must be processed first in the regular session, and our leadership will do our best."
