[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam is promoting the 2022 National Safety Inspection for Ferries and Passenger Ships until October 14.
This national safety inspection will be conducted in two phases, based on the Chuseok holiday period from September 9 to 12.
In the first phase, facilities requiring inspection before Chuseok, such as ferries (doseon), and high-risk passenger ships and ferries over 20 years old will be the main focus.
The second phase will re-inspect the remaining facilities and the follow-up measures for issues pointed out in the first inspection.
Changwon Maritime Police plans to form a joint inspection team composed of experts from relevant organizations, including ship inspection agencies, to ensure objectivity and professionalism in the inspection.
The inspection team will focus on ▲firefighting and lifesaving equipment management status ▲safety lines at boarding and disembarking facilities ▲safety management systems and regulations.
Chief Ryu Yonghwan said, “We will prevent various disasters by eliminating risk factors on ships in advance,” and added, “We ask each business site to conduct voluntary inspections and strengthen their own safety management.”
