Yeonggwang-gun Participates in the '19th Energy Day' Lights-Out Event

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it will participate in the ‘19th Energy Day’ event hosted by the Energy Citizens' Solidarity and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Environment.

Energy Day is designated annually on August 22nd since 2004 to raise nationwide awareness of climate change and energy conservation, commemorating August 22, 2003, when the highest power consumption (45.98 million kW) was recorded that year.

This year’s ‘19th Energy Day’ event will commemorate Energy Day and spread public consensus on energy saving and climate crisis response under the theme ‘Turn off the lights and turn on the stars,’ by conducting a blackout event for 5 minutes starting at 9 p.m.

Additionally, a campaign to maintain the healthy air conditioner temperature of 26℃ to 28℃ will be held for one hour starting at 2 p.m.

Citizens who wish to participate in the Energy Day event can join by clicking ‘Participate’ on the Starlight Keeper section of the Energy Day website and can join the climate crisis response through Energy Day experience events.

Kim Yong-yeon, Director of the Economic Energy Division, said, “The whole world is suffering from climate change with wildfires and record-breaking heatwaves,” adding, “Although the blackout and air conditioner healthy temperature setting campaign for the 19th Energy Day may not be enough to save the Earth, I hope it will trigger a butterfly effect and lead to a healthy planet.”
