"LG Energy Solution-GM Considering 4th Battery Plant in Indiana, USA"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] LG Energy Solution and GM are considering investing in their fourth battery production plant in Indiana, USA.

According to local US media on the 19th, the two companies are officially reviewing New Carlisle, Indiana as the site for their fourth joint electric vehicle battery plant in the US.

It is reported that they have already submitted an application for tax incentives and other support to the authorities of St. Joseph County, where New Carlisle is located.

A spokesperson for their joint venture, Ultium Cells, stated, "We are developing a competitive business for a potential large-scale investment that could be established in New Carlisle, Indiana," and added that they have submitted a tax reduction application hoping for approval by the end of this month.

They continued, "We expect the application to be accepted as early as this month," and said, "If the tax reduction benefits are confirmed, the factory investment project could make significant progress."

The site for the joint venture plant covers 2.75 million square meters, with an estimated total investment of 2 billion dollars (approximately 2.65 trillion won).

Previously, they officially announced battery plant establishments in Ohio, Tennessee, and Michigan, and are either about to start mass production or are currently under construction.
