'Seoul Companion Animal Citizen School' Expands Popular Behavior Correction and Etiquette Classes... First-Come, First-Served Enrollment Problem Behavior Correction Training

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 19th that it will resume the second half courses of the ‘Seoul Companion Animal Citizen School,’ where owners can receive training from basic etiquette education for young dogs to behavioral correction, starting in September.

Applications for the courses can be made from the 20th on the ‘Seoul Companion Animal Citizen School’ website, and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This session will expand the popular dog behavior correction education and dog socialization and etiquette education from the first half of the year. In addition to the existing Mapo Center of the Seoul Animal Welfare Support Center, additional participants will be recruited and courses operated at the Guro Center. Each course will be conducted with a small group of six or fewer participants for effective education.

Dog socialization and etiquette education targets puppies under one year old and provides social adaptation training to people, animals, and the environment. Basic foundational education tailored by gender and age, along with individual consultations, will be provided three times to deliver etiquette education suited to each dog's characteristics.

Dog behavior correction education addresses correction and alternative behavior training for problematic behaviors. After a one-on-one preliminary consultation to identify individual issues, education will be provided according to problem types such as aggression, separation anxiety, and hypersensitivity, conducted once a week for five weeks on-site.

Additionally, a new ‘Weekend One-day Walking Training Class’ will be operated. Since September and October are ideal seasons for walking dogs, this weekend program offers training on proper walking methods and precautions.

Citizens who are curious about basic information on companion animals or prospective pet owners planning to raise pets can take online courses on pet adoption education and pet care education anytime through the Seoul Lifelong Learning Portal.

Park Yumi, Director of the Seoul Citizen Health Bureau, said, “We have strengthened dog behavior correction and socialization education, which have high demand among citizens, and improved accessibility by expanding operations at the Guro Center. We will further enhance satisfaction with various programs such as the weekend walking training class.”
