[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has signed a business agreement with Sinseong Tongsang to cooperate in establishing a transparent PET bottle resource circulation system. Eco-friendly clothing will be produced by Sinseong Tongsang using recycled fibers made from transparent PET bottles collected in Seoul.
According to Seoul on the 19th, the city signed a business agreement last January with Geumcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Gangnam districts, and Hyosung TNC for the recycling of transparent PET bottles. A total of 436 tons of transparent PET bottles were collected from the three districts, and Hyosung TNC recycled them to produce 118 tons of recycled fibers.
With this business agreement, Sinseong Tongsang’s SPA brand ‘Topten’ will also be able to launch products using recycled fibers. The signing ceremony was held on the 18th at Sinseong Tongsang headquarters, attended by Lee In-geun, Environmental Planning Officer, and Yeom Tae-soon, Chairman of Sinseong Tongsang, among others.
Taking this opportunity, Sinseong Tongsang plans to donate 1,000 pieces of ‘Topten Ecolia Ecofleece’ made from recycled transparent PET bottles. These will be provided in November to workers at recycling sorting facilities located in Seoul and the Seoul Urban Metal (SR) Center.
Meanwhile, separately, Sinseong Tongsang will donate about 20,000 pieces of T-shirts and underwear worth approximately 50 million won to residents affected by the recent heavy rains. Lee In-geun, Environmental Planning Officer, said, “The business agreement with Sinseong Tongsang will serve as a key model for resource circulation, and I hope many other companies will take interest and participate.” He added, “The Seoul Metropolitan Government will also strive to establish a well-organized system for the discharge, collection, and sorting of recyclable resources.”
