Due to industry movements aiming to produce successful works by building on the original work's box office performance, attempts to obtain new work ideas from verified original IPs are becoming more frequent. As global interest in Korean original IPs such as webtoons and web novels increases, opportunities for overseas media companies to gather and evaluate various IPs are also gradually expanding.
In fact, recently within the media industry, opportunities for exchange between overseas media companies and Korean original IP companies have been expanding through webtoon markets, pitching events, and more. Not only companies seeking to introduce original IPs overseas but also media companies aiming to adapt IPs into video content are knocking on the doors of the Korean IP market.
However, the industry's response is that media companies still face difficulties in finding good original IP information. It is hard to obtain detailed qualitative information about IPs, and since the so-called 'popular' content varies greatly by country, it is difficult to gauge the acceptance of each content. Moreover, not all companies can check information about IP-related events and participate, causing gaps in network formation within the industry.
Accordingly, recently, integrated databases are being utilized to allow easy access to various forms of original IPs created in each country within their respective regions.
For example, Blintn offers an integrated IP search function that collects content-related information meeting different needs by country, enabling easier discovery of new IPs and connection with media companies.
A Blintn representative analyzed, “In the content market where 30 million new original IPs are continuously produced annually, securing good works requires receiving accurate information that can find stories suitable for current needs.”
The representative added that Blintn is currently responding to this global-level IP demand by “continuously adding original IP-related data and enhancing the search function to provide more accurate search results,” and further stated, “We plan to continuously improve our service to provide content-related information that meets needs by more delicately reflecting differences in tastes and sentiments by country.”
