[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Park Jung-gyu, the Planning and Public Relations Director of the Jogye Order Democratic Labor Union, who was collectively assaulted by monks, has filed a police complaint against the offending monks on charges including special injury.
On the 18th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they received the complaint from Park the previous day and are currently investigating. The police have conducted investigations on two of the three accused individuals and plan to continue the investigation on the remaining accused through further inquiries.
In the complaint, Director Park stated, "On the 14th, while holding a placard for a solo protest in the parking lot of Bongeunsa Temple and leaving the temple gate, a monk snatched the placard and, along with another monk whose identity I do not know, pushed me outside the Iljumun Gate," adding, "Afterwards, they hit my face 2 to 3 times, assaulting me."
He also said, "While moving to conduct a solo protest at Bongeunsa Temple, two monks assaulted me and threw feces, and another monk, whose identity is unknown, also hit me while I was lying on the ground."
Meanwhile, the Jogye Order Democratic Labor Union also submitted a complaint to the Jogye Order General Affairs Headquarters' Legal Affairs Department on the same day, demanding investigation and disciplinary action against the monks involved in the assault.
