[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Semiconductor wafer manufacturer SK Siltron is launching the ‘Local Rice RiGo’ campaign for all employees, actively practicing the ‘New Corporate Spirit.’ The ‘New Corporate Spirit’ is a concept proposed by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry when it launched the ‘New Corporate Spirit Council (ERT)’ last May, emphasizing that companies should not only focus on profit generation but also consider and act on solutions to social issues such as climate change.
On the 18th, SK Siltron announced that it held a donation ceremony to contribute 3,000 bags (20kg each) of rice to support local farmers in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, and provide meals for elderly people living alone. The campaign is carried out through donations from the company and its 3,000 employees. SK Siltron plans to use the collected funds to purchase rice from local farmers in Gumi to alleviate their difficulties and, at the same time, support meals for elderly people living alone with high-quality local rice.
SK Siltron is conducting various social contribution activities with the aim of having a positive impact on the Gumi region. In particular, it continuously operates programs considering the characteristics of Gumi, where the child population ratio is high. One representative example is the support project ‘The Dream’ for the healthy growth of children in Gumi, funded by employee donations. Since last year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it has supported about 300 children at 10 local children’s centers, and this year, the support scale has expanded to 20 centers and about 550 children.
SK Siltron also operates educational programs such as the semiconductor career education ‘Drawing the Future, Wafer,’ which has been running for three years targeting about 3,500 elementary and middle school students, and the ESG-type future talent development project ‘myGumi’ for about 350 sixth-grade elementary school students.
