Hansol Technics, Strong Impact from 'iWons' Acquisition

Q2 Consolidated Operating Profit Surges 249% Year-on-Year

Hansol Technics, Strong Impact from 'iWons' Acquisition

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the global supply chain crisis caused by the Russia-Ukraine war, and inflation concerns, the electronic components and materials sector is facing very challenging conditions. However, Hansol Technics has attracted industry attention by recording strong consolidated earnings in the second quarter.

Hansol Technics posted consolidated sales of 346.7 billion KRW in the second quarter, a 1% decrease compared to the same period last year, but operating profit surged 249% to 14.3 billion KRW during the same period. This is attributed largely to the stabilization of logistics costs, which had surged last year, and the acquisition effect of its subsidiary, I-ONE S.

Acquired by Hansol Technics in January, I-ONE S is a company engaged in manufacturing parts for semiconductor equipment, as well as coating and cleaning services. It is one of the leading domestic companies in the materials, parts, and equipment industry that has localized chambers necessary for wafer processing, a core semiconductor material.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service disclosure, I-ONE S recorded sales of 42.5 billion KRW in the second quarter, a 5% growth compared to the same period last year, and operating profit increased 27% to 10.7 billion KRW. Notably, both the semiconductor precision processing and precision cleaning sectors showed year-on-year growth, and the operating profit margin reached as high as 25%, demonstrating strong profitability.

The market evaluates that through the acquisition of I-ONE S, Hansol Technics has achieved a successful merger and acquisition (M&A) in the promising future business field of the semiconductor industry, securing stable new growth engines along with improved performance.

An industry insider said, "Although Hansol Technics’ sales approach nearly 2 trillion KRW, profitability in existing businesses was not high, so new businesses to overcome this were urgently needed. Through the acquisition of I-ONE S, they have properly equipped themselves with new growth engines. Expansion of the business portfolio in the semiconductor sector is highly anticipated."
