[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Negotiations between the Cargo Solidarity of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (KPTU) occupying the Hite Jinro headquarters and the management have once again broken down.
According to industry sources on the 17th, negotiations between the Cargo Solidarity and Hite Jinro management reportedly ended in failure again on that day, following the previous day. The Cargo Solidarity and Hite Jinro management held talks at a nearby police substation but were unable to narrow their differences.
The union demands that the management withdraw the damages lawsuit and provisional seizure, reinstate dismissed workers, and adjust transportation fees to realistic levels. They have stated that if these demands are not accepted, they will continue to occupy the Hite Jinro headquarters. Since the previous day, the Cargo Solidarity has blocked the first-floor entrance and occupied the headquarters.
The Cargo Solidarity plans to hold a large-scale rally with about 1,000 participants on the road in front of the Hite Jinro headquarters at around 2 p.m. on the 18th. Additionally, to urge the government to resolve the high-altitude sit-in protest at Hite Jinro, they will hold a press conference in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office.
Meanwhile, at around 2 p.m. on the same day, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency visited the Hite Jinro headquarters to conduct an on-site inspection. The police stated that they visited the headquarters to assess the extent and risk of the union's obstruction of business.
