[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 16th that it held the ‘Climate Change Environmental Education Related Agencies Council’ at the Jeonnam Creative Convergence Education Center, attended by four institutions: the Future Talent Division, Jeonnam Creative Convergence Education Center, Suncheon Bay Ecological Culture Education Center, and Jeonnam Nature Exploration Center.

The four institutions present on the day agreed on the necessity to activate environmental education in response to the climate crisis, pledged to discover environmental education policies, strengthen support roles for field-centered climate change environmental education, and build mutual solidarity relationships.

Going forward, the Provincial Office of Education plans to establish a foundation for climate change environmental education through policy-centered operations and to promote the spread of a culture of practice.

To this end, the Jeonnam Creative Convergence Education Center will operate climate change environmental education courses linked to the curriculum and run programs related to environmental education for educational stakeholders.

The Suncheon Bay Ecological Culture Education Center plans to develop ecological experience learning content linked to the curriculum and conduct programs centered on ecological culture operations. Additionally, the Jeonnam Nature Exploration Center will operate visiting ecological environmental education and nature exploration classroom programs.

Ko Gwang-jin, head of the Future Talent Division, said, “An overall approach to the curriculum, culture of practice, and school environment is necessary to realize ecological transition education for a sustainable life,” adding, “We hope that strengthening the support system for climate change environmental education operating institutions this time will serve as an opportunity to activate school ecological environmental education.”
