Criticism of Emergency Committee Formation and Targeted Audits
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The Democratic Party of Korea will submit a request for a national audit on June 17 regarding allegations of preferential treatment in the relocation of the presidential residence under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and controversies over private recruitment. On the same day, the Democratic Party leadership intensified their criticism by mentioning the Yoon administration’s private recruitment allegations and politically motivated retaliatory investigations.
Park Hong-geun, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, stated at the emergency committee meeting, "It is the natural duty of the National Assembly, regardless of party lines, to properly uncover and rectify the major suspicions held by our citizens."
He criticized, "The report card for President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has reached 100 days in office, is dismal. The public gave him a score in the 20s out of 100. In all areas of national governance indicators such as personnel, national unity, work attitude, communication methods, economy and livelihood, and diplomacy and security, the public judged that he is failing."
He continued, "Nevertheless, the president clearly stated at a brief meeting yesterday that this is not a matter of political gain or loss and that there will be no comprehensive personnel reshuffle. Meanwhile, the only substantial change was the People Power Party’s emergency committee," he pointed out.
Park, the floor leader, said, "The former Gwangju mayoral candidate, who was a prosecutor for 20 years and was embroiled in allegations of private recruitment by the presidential office, has become a member of the emergency committee. Following the reaffirmation of the ruling party floor leader, a close aide of Yoon who was suspected of preferential contract awards and even left the party, was appointed as the secretary-general."
He added, "Against public opinion calling for integrated politics to take care of people’s livelihoods and revive the economy, the card played was an intensified politically motivated retaliatory investigation. The ruling party floor leader slandered autonomous civic groups as the Democratic Party’s political reserve forces and even put civic groups under targeted audits," he emphasized.
