[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A man in his 50s who tried to escape by cutting off his electronic ankle bracelet with a cutter was caught at Seoul Station.

On the 17th, Seoul Namdaemun Police Station announced that they apprehended a man in his 50s, Mr. A, who damaged his electronic ankle bracelet at around 9:40 PM the previous day. Mr. A is reported to have three prior convictions related to sexual offenses.

At around 8:12 PM the previous day, Mr. A damaged his electronic ankle bracelet with a cutter on a street in Bupyeong-dong, Incheon. Afterwards, he moved to Seoul Station and purchased a train ticket to Busan but was caught by police conducting a nearby search. It is presumed that he attempted to flee to Busan.

Mr. A was caught because, although he damaged the ankle bracelet, he did not discard it and carried it in his bag while moving. The police tracked Mr. A’s route from Yeongdeungpo Station to Seoul Station and intensified their search around Seoul Station. The fact that Mr. A damaged the electronic ankle bracelet was reported to the police by the Ministry of Justice.
