[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Han Donghoon, Minister of Justice, who is about to recommend a candidate for Prosecutor General, said, "I will recommend someone with the will and ability to properly eradicate crime."

Minister Han, after concluding the meeting for selecting the 45th Prosecutor General candidate held at the Ministry of Justice Gwacheon Government Complex on the afternoon of the 16th, expressed gratitude to the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee (Recommendation Committee) for recommending good candidates and stated, "We will prepare to make a recommendation soon based on the results."

He also said, "I will recommend someone who upholds justice and common sense and has the will and ability to properly eradicate crime," adding, "The specific schedule for the recommendation has not yet been decided."

On that day, the Recommendation Committee recommended four candidates to Minister Han Donghoon as the first Prosecutor General candidates under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration: Yeo Hwansub, Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute (24th Judicial Research and Training Institute class, hereafter referred to as class); Kim Hugon, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul High Prosecutors' Office (25th class); Lee Dubong, Chief Prosecutor of Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office (25th class); and Lee Wonseok, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office (27th class).

The Recommendation Committee explained, "We selected and recommended to the Minister of Justice four candidates for Prosecutor General who have a firm will for fairness and justice, protect the political neutrality and fairness of the prosecution, and enforce the law in accordance with justice and common sense."

Kim Jintae, former Prosecutor General and chairman of the Recommendation Committee, told reporters immediately after the meeting, "We tried to select someone who can conscientiously perform the role of Prosecutor General," and added, "The vast majority of members agreed, and the decision was made unanimously in the first vote."

Based on this recommendation, Minister Han will make a final recommendation of one candidate to President Yoon Suk-yeol for appointment. The candidate is expected to officially take office around mid-next month after a National Assembly confirmation hearing. National Assembly approval is not required.
