Yun Byeong-tae, Mayor of Naju, Visits Sanitation Workers' Waiting Room... Listens to Their Difficulties

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Yoon Byung-tae, mayor of Naju, encouraged the hard work of sanitation workers and sanitary landfill workers who are working hard at various sites to create a pleasant urban environment.

According to the city on the 16th, Mayor Yoon visited three sanitation worker waiting rooms (Jungbu, Bitgaram, Yeongsanpo) on the 12th and expressed gratitude to the on-site staff sweating in the continuous heatwave, while listening to their field difficulties.

Mayor Yoon said, “I thank the sanitation workers who roam the streets from dawn to night to create a pleasant environment despite adverse conditions such as summer heat, foul odors, and the resurgence of COVID-19,” adding, “I hope you take special care of your health and safety accident prevention during the summer with pride and responsibility for making a clean and healthy Naju.”

He continued, “To ensure a safe working environment, we reflected the budget for purchasing 14 Korean-style low-floor cleaning vehicles in this supplementary budget proposal, and we are currently hiring 10 new personnel to fill vacancies among sanitation workers,” promising continuous interest and support for improving working conditions.

Following the visit to the sanitation worker waiting rooms, Mayor Yoon visited the Gongsan-myeon sanitary landfill site to check the overall operation status of the landfill and recycling sorting facilities.

In particular, through cleaning resources and reports, he listened to the landfill operation status, landfill lifespan, recycling processing procedures, and alternative treatment plans for household waste other than landfill, in accordance with the ban on direct landfill of household waste by 2030.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae emphasized, “Given the current situation, it is realistically impossible to install a new landfill, so efficient use of the current landfill is necessary,” and urged, “Please promote publicity and education to cultivate mature civic awareness such as waste separation and disposal.”

Additionally, he said, “I will actively reflect the matters heard and checked during the site visit to improve workers’ working conditions and welfare,” and requested, “Please pay special attention not only to garbage collection but also to roadside areas, planned commercial building sites, and weeds so that citizens can live in a clean environment throughout the four seasons.”
