Professor Shin Minho of Chosun University Hospital Performs Region's First 'Single-Port Robotic Cholecystectomy'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Shin Minho of the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Chosun University Hospital recently performed the region's first ‘Single-Port Robotic Cholecystectomy’ in Gwangju and Jeonnam.

According to Chosun University Hospital on the 16th, robotic surgery is a surgical system in which only a few small incisions are made on the affected area, robotic arms are inserted, and the surgeon sits at a console device to remotely control the robotic arms during the procedure.

Single-Port Robotic Cholecystectomy is a method that involves making only one incision about 2cm in size at the navel and inserting a single trocar. Compared to conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy, this method results in a smaller surgical incision with almost no scarring, providing higher cosmetic benefits, as well as advantages such as less bleeding, reduced postoperative pain, and faster recovery.

Compared to laparoscopic surgery, it provides a surgical field with more than 10 times magnification and 3D enlarged images, and automatic correction of hand tremors allows for precise and delicate movements, minimizing damage to normal tissues, blood vessels, and nerves, enabling a stable surgery.

Professor Shin Minho said, “Using the latest 4th generation da Vinci Xi robot, we were able to perform surgery more safely and precisely with only a single incision,” and added, “We will continue to strive to enhance patients’ rapid recovery and satisfaction.”

Meanwhile, the Chosun University Hospital Robotic Surgery Center, opened in March this year, is operated through organic cooperation among professors from various departments with extensive experience in high-difficulty surgeries, dedicated robotic surgery nurses, and robotic surgery consultation coordinators.
