[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct safety inspections on 66 aging small-scale apartment complexes (4,545 households) that are in safety management blind spots from August 16 to October 31.
The inspection targets are 66 out of 75 small complexes that have been completed for more than 15 years.
However, seven apartment complexes with 16 or more floors subject to the "Special Act on the Safety and Maintenance of Facilities," one complex included in the housing reconstruction maintenance project, and one complex owned entirely by the same individual were excluded from the inspection targets.
The inspections will be conducted by the Korea Housing Managers Association under commission. Yongin City has allocated a related budget of 416.31 million KRW.
Under the current Housing Act and the Special Act on the Safety Management of Facilities, apartment management entities are required to conduct regular inspections twice a year and receive at least one detailed inspection or safety diagnosis every 2 to 6 years depending on the building's safety grade.
However, small-scale apartment complexes with fewer than 150 households are excluded from legal inspection targets and mostly lack management entities, leaving them in safety management blind spots.
A city official stated, "We believe this inspection will greatly help resolve safety management blind spots and provide a safe residential environment for residents of small-scale apartment complexes."
