[Seoul District News] Nowon-gu Reborn as a Multi-Generational Cultural Rest Area Next to Nowon Culture and Arts Center & Existing Plaza Renovated with New Children's Play and Rest Facilities Installed
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has created a new resting space that everyone can enjoy in Junggyebon-dong, where parks and playground facilities are relatively lacking.
It is ‘Jeongdam Park’ next to the Nowon Culture and Arts Center in Junggye-dong. The old plaza, which had become deserted due to aging facilities, was renovated with worn-out pavement repaired and a specialized flowerbed created. The newly established Jeongdam Park features ▲children’s playground equipment ▲outdoor exercise machines ▲rest facilities, reborn as a 1,322㎡ integrated cultural resting space for all generations.
The central area of the park is designed as a children’s playground. To foster children’s adventurous spirit while playing, net playgrounds, adventure playgrounds, and basket swings were installed. A sand play area was also prepared for tactile activities. Considering both learning and fun, the park aims to guarantee children’s right to play and support healthy growth.
A drinking fountain was installed so children can quench their thirst after playing, with a faucet underneath to allow hand washing.
A space for adults was also prepared. Equipment such as barbells, waist-twisting machines, and double-arm rope pullers were installed for light daily exercise. The resting area’s floor was paved with artificial turf, and a multi-parasol was installed above it, giving the feeling of being at an outdoor caf? rather than a neighborhood park. Behind the parasol, benches and wooden deck shelters were installed to create a space where more residents can gather.
Additionally, a specialized flowerbed was created at the park entrance. Various species such as hydrangeas, Gaura Baby, and Coreopsis were planted to provide plenty of visual interest. Visitors can enjoy a comfortable rest while sitting under the parasol and viewing the colorful flowers.
In March, the district opened the lifestyle-oriented cultural space ‘Jeongdam.’ Before creating Jeongdam Park, the existing bicycle rental station in the plaza was remodeled into a community space for local young artists and residents. With this space established first, the park was naturally named Jeongdam Park. The combination of the two facilities is expected to create a synergy effect as a cultural resting space. The cultural space Jeongdam is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 PM to 8 PM. Maintenance time is from 5 to 6 PM, during which use is restricted.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I hope Jeongdam Park will regain vitality and become a regional cultural hub,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create urban resting spaces that all residents can enjoy and to build a cultural city where culture permeates everyday life.”
