[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Unisem announced on the 12th that its consolidated sales for the second quarter of this year amounted to 61 billion KRW, a 29.2% decrease compared to the same period last year. Operating profit for the same period was 7.2 billion KRW, and net profit was 4.3 billion KRW, both down from the previous year.
Unisem is a specialized company in scrubbers and chillers, equipment used to treat harmful gases generated in semiconductor and display production processes. It supplies equipment to leading domestic and international semiconductor and display companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG Display, and BOE.
Raw material costs rose due to the impact of inflation. Despite adverse conditions, sales growth of plasma scrubbers stood out. The strengthening of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities by major clients directly benefited the company.
Plasma scrubbers are considered representative eco-friendly semiconductor equipment. They reduce carbon emissions by minimizing byproducts generated during the treatment of harmful gases in the process.
An Unisem official stated, "As the application of scrubbers in semiconductor manufacturing processes expands, demand for eco-friendly scrubbers is increasing," adding, "Next-generation eco-friendly scrubbers currently under development are also being tested by clients."
He further added, "In the second half of the year, equipment delivery to Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Plant 3 (P3) is expected, which is anticipated to be reflected in the performance."
